Most tax professionals at one time or another in their career have worked with IRS personnel in their local offices. National Office of IRS, located at 1111 Constitution Avenue NW Washington DC is not the local office – policy decisions made affect all IRS campus locations. Tax Professionals will learn the order of authority and who to contact in this rapidly expanding IRS. From Forms and Publications to the Commissioner's Office, tax professionals must know the interworking's of the IRS to benefit the taxpayers they serve. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
- 1031 Exchange:
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act changed the terms of a 1031 Exchange. Tax Professionals will learn the requirements to defer taxes, what changed and what did not. Property that qualifies and how the Code Section 1031 can benefit your taxpayers will be discussed along with the different type of exchanges. The need for an Exchange Intermediary will be stressed and who cannot be used to facilitate a 1031 will be studied. Critical words such as boot, both received and paid, will be examined and how this tax deferral tool can very well be a mechanism for tax avoidance. Tax Professionals will learn how to report an exchange as well as how to report on taxes when the exchange fails. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
- Ethics – Judge, Jury and Executioner:
Circular 230, Federal Code of Regulations under Title 31, US Code is the manual of how a tax professional conducts their business. After a brief presentation of who we are and what we do, with reference to Circular 230, the participants will become the jury as they hear the Judge bring charges of the US Government against return preparers. A formal defense for their actions will be made but the jury will vote and determine, if guilty, the punishment. The judge will read the verdict and the penalty. Practitioners will discover the penalties for not obeying Circular 230 as well as find they are harder on bad preparers than the Department of Justice. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
- New/Old Tax Law:
Very rarely do Tax Professionals get to enjoy a tax season with little or no tax change other than inflation increasing numbers. However, tax law is always changing, and Tax Professionals will be introduced to new tax law with which they will be working as well as review existing law that they may have found to be problematic. Fewer and fewer of us are remembering the massive tax law changes of 1986 or the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2018, but Congress has plans to change the tax laws, create even more and complex credits and potentially the expiration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a return to itemizing deductions and dependents. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
- Senior Taxpayer:
Tax Professionals often brag of having the same client for 30, 40 or even 50 years. Aging taxpayers bring problems of return preparation to the tax professional who wants to serve them. The course will discuss physical issues of aging which may impair complete and accurate preparation of a tax return. Discussion includes specific tax issues for seniors as well as how the tax professional can modify their actions and office to accommodate their needs. They will learn the dangers Senior taxpayers may bring and how to avoid them yet continue to be of service. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
- Estate and Gift Tax Updates:
With the day of reckoning, January 1, 2026, estate planning with the liberal Lifetime Gift exclusion must be a part of tax planning for tax professionals. With the worst words out of any taxpayers' mouth, "why didn't you tell me?" tax professionals must know the consequences of the expiration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on gifting now and filing Form 709 as well as the DSUE, Deceased Spouse Unused Exemption, and the Filing of Form 706, as well as the consequences of doing nothing. Tax professionals will learn the law and how to inform their clients as well as how to protect themselves from liability in estate planning. Presented by Beanna J. Whitlock, Enrolled Agent.
