Summary
Now that the 2023 filing season is behind us and our focus shifts to 2024, it’s important for tax professionals to recognize the SECURE 2.0 provisions that are effective for 2024. This article will discuss the provisions most professionals are expected to encounter and provide guidance to address inquiries they may receive from clients. With an understanding of the newly introduced provisions, we will be able to support our clients in various ways, including answering questions, helping our business clients with staff retention, and assisting our business and individual clients with saving for retirement.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify when a domestic abuse victim is eligible for an exception to the 10% early withdrawal tax
- Recognize which employees are eligible to make contributions to a “pension-linked emergency savings account” (PLESA)
- Explain the rules regarding when an account beneficiary of a qualified tuition program can rollover distributions to a ROTH IRA

Materials will include the SECURE 2.0 - Current Ramifications article, printable exam questions for study purposes and the online exam. CPE will be issued after the exam is successfully completed.
